6 APRIL – INTERNATIONAL DAY OF SPORT
On 6 April we celebrate International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.
Yelena Isinbaeva Charity Foundation is organizing its 2nd sport event for children and teenagers from social-rehabilitation centers of the Volgograd region.
“On the International Day of Sport for Development and Peacewe want to gather together all children, who have faced difficult life circumstances in such early years. This sport festival will unite children, and every participant can feel support, make new friends, work in a team and achieve great results in common project”, pointed out Yelena Isinbaeva, the President of the Charity Foundation, two-time Olympic champion, member of “Champions for Peace” club, which is a part of “Peace and Sport” Organization.
The main goal of this event is to remind that sport is, first of all, about mutual respect, fair play and team spirit. It doesn’t matter whether you enjoy running, skiing, cycling, swimming or working out in a gym – sport makes you stronger physically and mentally.
The sport festival will take place at the central embankment.
According to last year data, more than 310 events in 170 countries were held within the frames of International Day of Sport celebration, 2 of them took place in Russia: one in Volgograd and another one in Irkutsk. By way of contrast: in 2015, 180 projects in 70 countries were registered at april6.org and 345 projects in 90 countries were registered in 2014.
Nowadays it is planned to organize International Day of Sport festivals in Volgograd and Anapa.
It is to be recalled that on 23 August 2013 General Assembly of the United Nations have made unanimous consent to celebrate International Day of Sport on 6 April. The official name of the festival is International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. Sport, being a method of education, development and peace, contributes to closer cooperation, mutual respect, patience, understanding and social integration at the local, national and world level.
