Every child is worth standing on podium’ Festival

Yelena Isinbaeva Charity foundation organized a festival called ‘Every child is worth standing on podium’ where children could demonstrate their talents in the sphere of sport. This weekend became a real celebration for the children from orphanages of Volgograd and the Volgograd region. A very diverse sport and entertaining programme, suitable for children of different age, was elaborated for this occasion. Teams from Novoanninsk, Uriupinsk, Serafimovich, Kotovsk, Vetutnevsk, Tormosinovsk, Rudniansk, Mikhailovsk, Volzhsky and Volgograd orphanages, but also from the Volgograd boarding school participated in the competitions. All the participants were devided into small teams according to the age : less than 9 years old, 9 – 10 years, 11 – 12 years, 13 – 14 years so that the competitions were fair. Every child received a colourful track suit the colour of which corresponded to his/ her team.

Professors of the PE and Health department of the Volgograd Medical University, student volunteers and the city student club ‘Vizavi’ of the Student Council of the Medical University took part in the organisation of the competitions. The arbiter of the competitions was Physical education professor Maria Mitsulina.

It all started with the arrival of the teams to the « Start » hotel in Volgograd. The children were then brought on a bus to a handball arena of the « Dinamo » sport complex. On the first day children from 9 to 14 years of age competed each other. According to the programme there were competitions in 4 sport events : shuttle run 3x10m, sprint 30m, long jump and throwing a ball.

While the older children were competing, their younger fellows went to hear an excursion at the Museum of Russian Fairytale.

The next day a relay race was organised for the youngest athletes who ran, jumped and even gathered flowers of friendship. The children were crying with excitement and laughed. Funny professor Nicola continued to entertain the children. He plunged them into the incredible world of physics and chemistry and brought out a storm of happy feelings and excitement.

The two days competitions ended with an intellectual quiz and an awarding ceremony where the best athletes and teams were given different prizes. At the end of the day the children went to the cinema and then received Happy Meals from McDonalds restaurant.
